This site is one page, offering IB, SAT, ACT and AP preparation and academic English tuition in Barcelona and online. It is run by one tutor rather than a company, so where this policy says ‘I’ it means the tutor who receives your enquiry, trading as P-Squared Tutoring Specialists.
The only information this site asks you for is what you type into the enquiry form. It sells nothing, takes no payment, carries no advertising, and counts visits only if you agree to it.
What the enquiry form asks for
The form has six boxes. Five have to be filled in before it will send:
- your name
- your email address, so that I can reply
- the student’s current year or level, chosen from a list
- the subject or examination
- a short description of what the student needs
The sixth is a phone number, which is optional, for anyone who would rather talk than write.
What goes in each box is up to you. The form does not ask for an address, a date of birth or any payment detail, and there is no reason to put them there.
What happens to an enquiry
An enquiry is emailed to me so that I can reply and arrange a conversation about tuition. I use it for nothing else. It is not added to a mailing list, it is not used for marketing and it is not passed to anyone else.
The website also keeps a copy of each enquiry, so that one is not lost if the email goes astray. The copy is held on the web server, where it cannot be reached from the internet, and is deleted automatically after 90 days. Apart from that, the only copies are the one in my mailbox and whatever the services that carry the message hold on the way. Those are Hostinger, who host the site and send the email, and Google, who run the mailbox it arrives in. Neither is sent your enquiry for any purpose of their own.
If you phone rather than using the form, your number shows on my phone as it would with any call.
Information about the student
The form asks for the student’s current year or level, so an enquiry usually carries information about a child, sent by a parent. It separates your name from the student’s year, so it is written for whoever is arranging the tuition rather than for the student. Nothing else about the student is asked for beyond the subject and what they need help with.
Why I am allowed to hold it
The law expects me to have a reason for holding information about someone. Mine are these.
- Your enquiry. You sent it so that I would reply, and replying is a step towards tuition you are considering. Where tuition follows, the reason is that holding it is necessary to arrange and provide what you asked for. Where it does not, the reason is my legitimate interest in answering the people who get in touch and keeping a short record of having done so.
- The hosting and security records, and the spam check on the form. My legitimate interest in keeping the site working, in not having it broken into, and in keeping junk out of the enquiry form.
- Analytics. Your consent, given or refused in the cookie banner. You can withdraw it at any time.
I do not rely on your consent for your enquiry, which is why the form has no tick box to agree to. That does not reduce your rights, and it does not stop you asking me to delete your enquiry at any time.
How long an enquiry is kept
An enquiry stays in my mailbox while we are still talking about tuition, and while tuition is going on. After that there is an outside limit:
- where tuition does not follow, the enquiry is deleted within twelve months of the last message between us
- where tuition does follow, the enquiry is deleted within twelve months of the last session
- the copy kept on the website is deleted after 90 days, whatever happens
You can ask me to delete it sooner than that, and I will.
The records that come with running the site are not mine to time. Hostinger keep the web server logs and the cache in front of them to their own schedule. Wordfence is set to keep its records of suspicious requests and login attempts for thirty days, after which they are removed.
Cookies and analytics
The site uses Google Analytics to count visits, to see which parts of the page are used, and to see whether people go on to send the form or tap the phone number. It runs only if you choose Accept in the bar at the bottom of the page, or tick Google Analytics under Change. Until then nothing is loaded from Google and no analytics cookie is set.
If you agree, Google Analytics sets cookies whose names begin with _ga, which last up to two years, and Google receives details of your visit: the parts of the page you viewed, your device and browser, the site you came from and an approximate location worked out from your IP address. Google Analytics does not store the IP address itself. The reports show counts, not people. The data is kept in Google Analytics for fourteen months and then deleted. The account is run for me by the person who looks after this website. Google may process the data outside the European Economic Area, under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
The site also sets one cookie of its own, sg_consent, which remembers your choice for six months so that the banner does not ask again. It is set whichever choice you make.
You can change your mind at any time with the Cookie settings button at the bottom of the page, or by opening your cookie settings here. Refusing removes the analytics cookies.
Apart from analytics and the spam check on the enquiry form, described below, no other company’s service is loaded into these pages. The typefaces are served from this site rather than from a font service.
Everything else the site records
Apart from the enquiry form, there are three places your information is touched at all, and all of them come with running a website rather than from anything I do with visitors.
- Hosting. The site is hosted by Hostinger. Their servers keep the usual web server logs, and their content delivery network caches pages in front of those servers. Both record the IP address of a request.
- Security. Wordfence records requests it treats as suspicious, along with the IP address they came from, and records attempts to log in to the site. That is held in the site’s own database.
- Spam protection. The enquiry form is checked by Cloudflare Turnstile, which tells real people from automated programs that send junk through forms. When the page with the form opens, your browser loads Turnstile from Cloudflare, and Cloudflare receives your IP address and technical details of your browser and device so that it can make the check. Cloudflare uses them to run the check and keep it working, not for advertising, and it does not see what you type into the form. Cloudflare may process this outside the European Economic Area, under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
None of them is used to build a picture of who visits, and Google Analytics, if you allow it, gives me counts rather than people.
Your rights
You can ask me to tell you what information about you I hold, give you a copy of it, correct anything that is wrong, delete it or stop using it. Ask on +34 659 103 470. The law allows a month to answer.
If you think your information has been handled badly, you can complain to a data protection authority. In Spain that is the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos.
